The Western Counties Regional Libraries are offering a summer program to help teach technology.

The free service is being offered at eight of their branches, where anyone can drop in for help with technology.

“Technologies are constantly changing and for many, still, the thought of using them can present a barrier,” said regional library director Erin Comeau.

Right now, library staff are often asked questions like ‘How can I print from my phone?’ or ‘How do I fill out an online form?”

“People need to be comfortable using technologies in order to stay connected and to keep up with societal changes,” she said.

With technology changing every day it’s hard to keep up to date on what’s going on, but the library wants to help change this barrier.

“The library’s role is to provide the information and resources necessary for everyone to feel confident using technologies. Having staff available to answer individuals’ questions, no matter how small they may seem, is a big part of us being able to provide this very important service.”

Group and one-on-one training is available for anyone interested.

“Having grown up with the Internet, social media, smartphones and tablets, our youth are pretty adept at showing us how to use them.”
