Hope for Heritage events on tap in Digby
The Hope for Heritage SAILabration has been an annual event in Digby County since 1996, raising funds for the Digby and Smith’s Cove historical societies.
This year events will run from Aug. 3 to 5.
A salmon or cold plate dinner and silent auction will take place at the Wheelhouse restaurant at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Admiral Digby museum.
On Aug. 4 heritage trophies will be presented to the winners at the Royal Western Nova Scotia Yacht Club from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Aug. 5, tour guides Greg Turner and Larry Goodwin will host a Hike for Heritage at the Acacia Valley Trails. An easy hike (wheelchair accessible) begins at 1 p. m. and a more challenging hike begins at 2 p. m. To join the hike it costs $20 for adults. Kids can come for free. The first 25 paid adults will receive a treat from a local craft brewer.
There will be other prizes for people who register. To register, contact the Admiral Digby Museum, Smith’s Cove Museum, or Meaghan Raymond at 902245-1984. At 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 at the Digby Marina there will be a celebration for the yacht Wellington D. The yacht turns 50 years old this year.
“It would be greatly appreciated if you could send a congratulatory birthday card to its owner, Judge Charles Haliburton,” said Gail Hersey, president of the Admiral Digby museum board.
Birthday cards and monetary donations, which will be given to the Historical Society, can be sent to PO Box 369, Digby N. S., B0V1A0. At 4:30 p.m. there will be a lottery draw at the marina. First prize is VIP tickets for two with hotel accommodations for the 2019 AHL All Star Classic game in Springfield, Massachusetts. Second prize is a year’s golf membership at Digby Pines Golf Resort.
Third prize is a round trip for two aboard the Bay Ferry’s Fundy Rose. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10.
Tickets can be purchased at the Admiral Digby museum and Smith’s Cove museum.
