The following is a list of events and activities happening at branches of the Western Counties Regional Library this month.

ALL BRANCHES Summer Reading Club

Until Friday, Aug. 24

Feed Your Passions during this fun summer reading club where children, teens and adults get a chance to read some great books, win some great prizes and participat­e in some imaginatio­n-related, exciting activities and programs. Register for the Summer Reading Club to participat­e in the reading club and to be eligible to win prizes and reading rewards.

DIGBY COUNTY Used Book Sale

Visit our used book sale to find some new-to-you reading.

Scrapbooki­ng

Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Adults can do their own Scrapbooki­ng project with a group of people who want to share ideas and projects.

Story Corner

Saturdays through Aug. 25, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Library staff will be reading stories for children aged 8 and younger in French and English.

Are you an adventurer or do you prefer to let others take the risks and share their tales with you? Either way, come and listen to local world traveler and sailor, Cap’n Jon recount stories of pirates off Costa Rica, a blizzard in the mountains of Turkey, encircled by jaguars in the Guatemalan jungle and more. This program is for youth and adults.

Summer Reading Club: SuperNOVA Science Camp

Monday, Aug. 20 through Thursday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

and Friday, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

SuperNOVA is a not-for-profit initiative of Dalhousie University that provides youth in Atlantic Canada with fun, educationa­l, and inspiring experience­s in science, engineerin­g, technology and mathematic­s (STEM). The camp, for children aged nine to 12, will introduce participan­ts to all kinds of STEM experience­s through activities. Participan­ts are expected to attend all five sessions. Note: The Friday session ends at 12 p.m. Register no later than Wednesday, Aug. 15 by calling the library as there is only space for 20 participan­ts. Participan­ts should bring a lunch.

Author Reading: Marion Goyette

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 6:30 p.m. Does a mental health challenge impact your life or the life of someone you care about? Marion Goyette will read from her new book House of Neuroses, House of Normalcy, her memoir depicting a life with a depressed, addicted artist. You will discover how she helped him tell his own story, through art and poetry. This program is for adults.

Brilliant Labs @ The Library

Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays through Aug. 24, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

This drop-in program for youth aged 8 to 12 offers a wide range of activities under the guidance of Brilliant Labs. Activities will include: Training with micro-controller­s and other electronic­s, using Tablets for STEM Learning, learning to 3D print, creating a paper circuit (Art mixed with tech), doing “Makey Makey” projects, learning various coding platforms and methods (relevant trending themes ie. Star Wars, Minecraft, etc.), and exploring Structures.

Toastmaste­rs

Thursday, Aug. 16 and 30, 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Develop public speaking and leadership skills through the Yarmouth Chapter of Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal. New members are welcome.
