DEVEAU, E. Stanley “Stan” MESSENGER, Carson Smith – 62, Endako, BC and Raynardton, NS. Following a brief battle with cancer, Carson passed away on August 11, 2018 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his friend Patty at his side. Born in Shelburne, NS on January 4, 1956 he grew up in West Head and spent the last eleven years in Endako, British Columbia. He was a son of the late Morton and Melba (Cunningham) Messenger. Carson worked as a fisherman, boat broker and finally in mine constructi­on in British Columbia. He will be remembered as loving to spin a good yarn and enjoying a good laugh with friends. Carson had many fond memories of his times spent at “camp”, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed his many hunting trips over the years. He especially enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing on the lakes which provided him with great material for his hunting tales that he so loved to tell. Carson is survived by sons, Shawn (Natasha Rhodenizer) Messenger and grand daughter Shelby, Kirby Messenger (Spence) and grand daughter Lexis; Riley Messenger (Spence); sisters Emma (Craig) Nickerson and Gena (Steve Jackola) Messenger; step brother Robert Sears; and many nieces and nephews. Carson was very fortunate to have a special friend who fulfilled his wish to return home to Nova Scotia to spend his final days with Patty and Arnie who opened their home and hearts to Carson, providing him with care that was second to none and ensuring that he spent his last days in comfort enjoying the serenity and peacefulne­ss he found on their back deck overlookin­g the lake. Besides his parents he was predecease­d by step father, Edwin Sears; sister, Helena Kaufmann and brother, Russell in infancy. A graveside service was held August 21, 2018 at 2pm from The Old Kirk Cemetery in North East Point, followed by a gathering at the Community Building at West Head Wesleyan Church, Pastor Vince Robertson officiated. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Tri County VON or the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund.  ??  ?? – age 82, Rockville, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the comfort of his home. Born May 31, 1936 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Frank and Ada (Atkinson) Deveau. Stan was a career military man, having served with the Canadian Armed Forces with the Mobile Support Equipment Operators (MSE Op), having served as a peacekeepe­r with the UN Forces in Germany and Egypt. During his years of service he was also the bartender at the Officers’ Mess for 25 years. He was a devoted lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth, where he held many offices, from Sergeant-atArms to President, and he work tirelessly for the Poppy Committee. He enjoyed politics and was a strong supporter of the Liberals. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ada (Harrington) Deveau, as well as by his children: Stan Deveau, Frank (Karen) Deveau, both of North Bay, ON; Marvin Deveau, Halifax; Joseph Robicheau, Yarmouth; Dolores (Duane) Deveau-Fevens, Eastern Passage; Belinda (Raymond) Desilets, North Bay, ON; Sheila Deveau, Yarmouth and a step-daughter, Jacqueline Harrington, Yarmouth. He will be lovingly remembered by his many grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren and great-great grandchild­ren. Also surviving are sisters, Gloria LeBlanc and Donna Makes, both of Yarmouth and Marina (Wayne) Manser, Halifax. Aside from his parents, he was predecease­d by brothers, Freeman “Bubsy”, Robert “Rugs”, Burton “Butchie”; sisters, Doral Tsohatzis, Gladys MacIssac, Rose Duncan and Veronica Goodwin, as well as by a granddaugh­ter in infancy, Ashley. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Sunday with a Royal Canadian Legion Service at 7:30 p.m., followed by prayers at 8 p.m., all at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A funeral liturgy was held on Monday, August 20 at 1 p.m. at Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Yarmouth, or to Wounded Warriors Canada. Their six children and their families love and miss them. Nancy was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. She moved to Halifax where she studied for her nursing degree and met Wilfred who studied engineerin­g after the 2nd World War where he saw action in Belgium, France and Italy. They were married on Nov 7, 1949. They moved to Copper Cliff, Ontario where they started their family. Their 6 children and 16 grandchild­ren have many fond memories of their Nana and Papa.
