Teen chops the competitio­n at second annual Chopped Argyle

Sixteen- year- old Vincent d’Eon “officially chopped the competitio­n” at the second annual Chopped Argyle at the West Pubnico Legion on Aug. 14, winning the coveted chopped champ apron in both the entrée and dessert categories.

Hosted by the Municipali­ty of Argyle Recreation Department, five contestant­s competed in this year’s event, including Suzette d’Eon, April Cunningham, who repeated as chopped champ for appetizers, Mia White, Renee Malone and Vincent d’Eon.

The contestant­s were given a specific list of ingredient­s just days before the competitio­n that had to be used in each dish. For appetizers, it was mushrooms and plain Greek yogurt. Chicken, orange and egg plant for the entrée, and arrowroot cookie, raspberry and honey for dessert.

More than 80 people were in attendance, getting the opportunit­y to sample the dishes prepared Vincent d’Eon get a hug from his grandmothe­r Berthe d’Eon after winning the Chopped Argyle championsh­ips for entrées and desserts at the West Pubnico Legion on Aug. 14. by the contestant­s following the taste-testing for each category by judges Shirley d’Entremont and Reagan Stuart.

D’Eon also competed in first Chopped Argyle.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect the first time,” he said after winning the two categories, edging out last year’s entrée chopped champ Mia White and dessert chopped champ Renee Malone. the

“This time I knew what to expect so I gave it a bigger effort,” said d’Eon, adding he remembered the judge’s critiques last year and put that into perspectiv­e this year.

D’Eon has been cooking and baking for about six years now. He said his mother Cindy d’Eon and grandmothe­r Berthe d’Eon “taught me a lot of stuff.”

Plans are already in the works for the third annual Chopped Argyle to be held next summer. The competitio­n is open to anyone who would like to enter.
