It’s two weekends down and one to go for the 2018 Coal Shed Music Festival on the Yarmouth waterfront.

The festival will wrap up with a Sunday night country show (Aug. 26) – an evening with several members of the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame and this year featuring a lifetime achievement award presentation to Vic Mullen.

Held over three weekends – for a combined nine days of entertainment – the annual festival kicked off Aug. 10 with a youth talent showcase.

The festival features a wide range of musical styles, something for just about everyone, said Phil DeMille, the festival’s founder and co-ordinator. The festival showcases musical talent from southwestern Nova Scotia and includes some acts Cassandra Oakley (left) and Rayanne Oakley share the vocals during the youth talent showcase that kicked off this year’s Coal Shed Music Festival Aug. 10. As for the third weekend (Aug. 24-26), aside from the musical performances, activities will include a songwriting circle (hosted by Campbell and Green, one of the festival’s headline acts again this year), as well as a chance to buy, sell or trade musical instruments. For a look at the festival’s schedule, visit www. coalshedmusicfestival.com. There’s always the possibility of last- minute changes, but the website generally is a pretty good guide for who is performing and when.

This is the 12th year for the festival, which was first held in 2007 as a two-day event. The festival again is helping school breakfast programs in the Yarmouth area. People also have a chance to support the Yarmouth Food Bank.
