Star Acadie held in Tusket

Suzanne d’Entremont’s university funds got a boost with a $500 cash prize, thanks to her performance in the latest Star Acadie singing competition. She was the first-place winner in the event’s 15 to 19-year-old category.
The eighth annual Star Acadie competition was held Aug. 20 in Tusket at the École secondaire de Par-en-Bas theatre.
‘‘Star Acadie is a great experience for all young people in our area,” d’Entremont said. “This competition gave me the opportunity of singing a song in French.’’
Ireland Nickerson came out a big winner also. In the 10 to 14- year- old category she won the first- place cash prize of $ 500 and the people’s choice of $ 100.
Edith Piaf ( 1915- 1963), the world-renowned French singer, was a sensation when the greatgrandparents of Star Acadie 2018 youth were young. She would have been proud of two Star Acadie singers.
In the 10 to 14 category, Arwen Brobbin won the $250 secondplace prize and a $150 judges’ mention prize for her rendering of the Edith Piaf hit Non je ne regrette rien.
Marissa Williams, in the 15 to 19 category, won the $250 second-place prize and a $100 for being voted the people’s choice. She sang another Edith Piaf hit, La vie en rose.
Manon d’Entremont was Ireland Nickerson was the Star Acadie 2018 first-place $500 cash prize winner for ages 10 to 14. awarded a judges’ mention prize of $150 in the 10 to 14 category. Emma Jacquard and Braidey Spinney won judges’ mentions of $150 each in the 15 to 19 category.
Lilly Swim wrote and sang her own composition, Rayons bleus, winning the $200 prize.
Judges for the competition were Charles Robicheau, Arthur Comeau and Vickie Porter, all performers and musicians from Clare.
