Invitation extended to Mayflower Descendants Conference
Many people in this area have direct connections to the passengers on the Mayflower. I am issuing an invitation to the Nova Scotia Colony of Mayflower Descendants Conference, taking place on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29 September at the Port Maitland School in Yarmouth County.
Registration on the Friday at 6 p.m. is followed by a meet and greet and a presentation about a “Mayflower Tour – England and Holland” by Susan Roser, Assistant Governor General, GSMD, Plymouth. Local storyteller Laurent d’Entremont will share, “Acadian Stories, True and Otherwise.” There will be displays of photos, books, and other resources throughout the conference.
Activities on the Saturday include an update on plans for the 2020 celebration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower; a workshop on researching your Mayflower ancestry; and stories about three Mayflower passengers told by their descendants and Garnet Purdy who has traced his ancestors back to the Wampanoag tribe. Following lunch, which is provided at the school, there will be a presentation by Susan Roser on General Society plans for 2020 in Plymouth. The program will end at 3 p.m. following a brief AGM; an opportunity for one-on-one meetings with Colony historian Judi Archibald; and drawing for door prizes.
You will find complete details and fees are at www.mayflowernovascotia.ca.
