On what would have been Jadon Robinson’s 20th birthday, 20 teams took to Main Street in Yarmouth on Saturday, Sept. 29, to participate in Day 1 of the twoday JStrong Cup.

The street hockey tournament was organized by the JStrong Fund. The fund was started in memory of Jadon Robinson – following his death at the age of 17 from a car accident – and assists Yarmouth County athletes and teams with registration costs, team sponsorships, event sponsorships, etc. The fund’s premise is that everyone should be able to access sports.

The street hockey event was a fundraiser for the Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association. The JStrong Fund donated $200 to minor hockey for every youth team that registered in the event (registration for the youth players was free), and overall, as a result of the entire weekend, the event raised around $5,000 for minor hockey.

The JStrong Cup was organized by the JStrong Fund with the help of the minor hockey association, many volunteers and sponsors, including the event’s title spon- sor Modern Realty.

Main Street was closed between Collins and Cumberland Streets on the Saturday while on Sunday, Sept. 30, the championship games were played at the outdoor arena at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre.

Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s JStrong Cup.

These were the category winners of this year’s event:

• Novice: Golden Knights

• Atom: Bash Brothers

• Peewee: Southwest Sticks

• Bantam: Kill Fish

• Midget: Southend Snipers

• Open: Aerial Ridge
