It’s the time of year when organizers of the annual Yarmouth County athletic awards ceremony are planning their event and again they are seeking the public’s help.

If there are any individual athletes or teams that have won at provincials – or perhaps at a higher level – in the past year, organizers of the athletic awards ceremony want to know about them.

They invite people to contact them either at Yarmouth Recreation or at the Argyle Recreation Department.

They also are accepting nominations for special awards. There are six categories of special awards (male and female).

The Yarmouth County athletic awards for 2018 will be presented Friday, Nov. 30, at École secondaire de Par-en-Bas in Tusket.

The ceremony is a fall tradition for the local area, an event that – for more than four decades – has recognized athletes and teams for their accomplishments.

Since it was first held in the 1970s, the ceremony has taken place in various locations, but in recent years the venue has been the Par-en-Bas school.

Each year a wide range of sports is represented, including indoor and outdoor ones, team sports and individual ones.

Among the evening’s highlights is the presentation of special awards. The following are the special award categories:

• male and female athlete of the year

• male and female youth athlete of the year

• male and female coach of the year

• male and female official of the year

• male and female fair play award

• male and female volunteer of the year

To recommend an individual or team for recognition for their achievements of the past year – or to nominate someone for one of a special award – or if you are looking for more information, the following are the contacts:
