An afternoon of entertainment is in store for those who turn out at the Wedgeport school Sunday, Oct. 14, when a variety show is held in support of the Wedgeport branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The show, which is scheduled for 2 p.m., will include music and skits.

“Just about all the performers, except two skits, are members of the legion or family members, so we have a talented group of people,” said Rita Doucette, a member of the Wedgeport legion’s entertainment committee.

Last year’s show drew a good crowd and organizers hope for a similar turnout this time, she said.

“It’s usually a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s a fun afternoon.”

Besides the singers and skits, the show will include a performance by dancers from the MacKenzie School of Dance. Last year was the group’s first time performing for the Wedgeport show.

The event is billed as “a great afternoon for a great organization.”

The Wedgeport legion branch (branch 155) is doing very well, says Doucette, adding that the branch is fortunate to have people who are dedicated to the cause and who help with the branch’s various fundraising activities.

“We have a lot of members that diligently work with these fundraisers,” she said.

Regular events at the Wedgeport branch include Monday night bingos and Thursday’s Chase the Ace.

“And we have our lottery,” Doucette said, “and through the year we have rappie pie and chowder take-outs. We have breakfasts. We’ve had kitchen parties. Trivia night. Recently we had a wing night and we’ll be

having a Halloween dance.”

The Wedgeport legion branch has 153 members and would welcome more, Doucette says.

“We’re always looking for new members,” she said. “Anybody can become a legion member. It’s open to anyone.”

As for the Oct. 14 show, admission is $8 per person or $20 per family.
