Hupmans returning to the Shelburne Osprey
Hometown musicians The Hupman Brothers Band return to the Osprey Arts Centre in Shelburne to perform a concert of new and favourite material on Saturday, Nov. 24 starting 8 p.m.
The founding brothers of the band, Scott and Ryan Hupman, grew up in Shelburne and still have lots of family in the area. They’ve lived and worked as musicians out of the Annapolis Valley for the past several years.
The Hupman Brothers Band is a contemporary blues folk band featuring the brothers Hupman with their band members Caleb Miles and Mike Carrol.
In the past eight years, the Hupman Brothers have released seven studio albums and received multiple award nominations through Music Nova Scotia, The East Coast Music Association (ECMA), and Maple Blues.
In 2016 the Hupmans released their newest album, “Still Love
It.” The Hupman Brother’s music is grounded in the golden age of blues, yet it does not necessarily follow the standard blues formula. Their songs and arrangements are fresh, incorporating swing/ragtime blues guitar of the 30s and 40s as well as bluegrass, folk, country and roots influences.
The Osprey Arts Centre is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2018. Artistic director Alex Buchanan says, “Ryan and Scott Hupman grew up and started playing and performing music right here in Shelburne. We couldn’t present our 15th anniversary season without including the Hupman Brothers. We’re always pleased to have them back.”
