CLARE 7 – WEST KINGS 4

The Clare Loups had a 7-4 win over the West Kings Wolverines on Friday, Nov. 8 in front of a huge crowd for their home opener. A ceremonial puck drop was made by the family of Ronald Doucet, who recently died. He was a staple in the community and a referee for many years and will be missed in the rink for his respect to all players and his sense of humour. Tania Saulnier sang the national anthem after all Clare Loup players were introduced.

The first period of the game started with two quick goals from the Loups from Zach Comeau and Michel Comeau. This was short-lived as the Wolverines retaliated with 2 back-to-back goals. Jean-Luc Comeau finished the scoring in that period, giving the 3-2 lead to Clare.

Leon Bouchard started the goals in the second period, then Michel Comeau scored a shorted handed goal, (his second goal of the game). West Kings later scored, finishing the second period 5-3.

Nathan Tufts scored for the

Loups in the beginning of the third period, allowing Clare to double the score 6-3. Then West King’s Riley Cook responded with a goal. The goal scoring ended with a slap shot from Tayson Maillet making this the 4th defence to score from the Loups and giving Clare the 7-4 final.

CLARE 4 – BARRINGTON 3 (OT)

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Clare Loups defeated the Barrington Barons 4-3 in overtime. Nicholas LeBlanc started the scoring of the game in the first period for Clare, with the first period ending 1-0. The second period was fast-paced and physical with Simon Muise scoring for Clare. Barrington then started firing shots Clare’s way with Nolan Atwood and Tylan Foster both scoring for Barrington. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie.

In the third period Zach LeBlanc scored an unassisted breakaway goal but the onegoal lead was short lived when the Barons’ Derek McCarthy scored bringing this back-andforth game to a tie again, with the game ending 3-3 at the final buzzer, sending it into overtime.

In overtime Barrington won the face-off and came into Clare’s zone with an unsuccessful attempt to score. The puck was brought up by the Clare Loups into the Barrington zone and the two forwards played a perfect pass onto Simon Muise’s stick for the winning overtime goal.

In an evenly played game in Middleton on Saturday night, Yarmouth wasted little time getting on the scoreboard two minutes in with Zach Richardson notching his first goal, enroute to a hat trick coupled with an assist for a four-point night. Going into the third period 4-2, Middleton continued to press with a goal to make it 4-3 in the first minute. Yarmouth soon banged in two more goals making it 6-3, but Middleton added another to make it 6-4 with four minutes to go.
