The Lockeport Greenwave were undefeated to take home the banner from the 2020 BMHS Junior Boys Winter Classic Basketball Tournament, held Jan. 10 and 11 at Barrington Municipal High School in Oak Park.

Six teams competed in two divisions in the round robin tournament: the host Barons, Lockeport Greenwave and St. Mary's Bay Academy Stingrays in Pool A and the Shelburne Rebels, Drumlin Heights Eagles and Bayview Bobcats in Pool B.

In round robin play Lockeport emerged with a 2-0 record with Barrington coming in second in Pool A. In Pool B, the Rebels went undefeated into the crossover games and Drumlin came away with 1 loss and 1 win to go to the crossovers round. Although St. Mary's Bay Academy lost their games in Pool A, they ended up winning their final game on Saturday afternoon against the Bayview Bobcats 48-35.

The first crossover of the tournament saw the number 2 seed Barons from Pool A challenge the Rebels, in what was certainly the game of the tournament. The fans were on the edge of their seats as the lead changed numerous times and was close until the very end with the Rebels holding on to a 59-58 win. Silas Willis led the way for the Barons with 21 points and Trent Ogden and Jonas Banks chipped in 15 and 14 respectively. For the Rebels, Jonah Demings and Chance Hartley each had 16 points to lead their team in scoring.

In the second crossover game, Lockeport took on Drumlin Heights. The game was dominated by Lockeport in the highscoring affair as the Greenwave won 85-62. Krew Goodwin was top scorer for the Eagles with 13 points and 3 other players finished the game with 10 points. The Greenwave had balanced scoring with Trent Page netting 17 points, 18 for Tanner Thompson and Avery Lloyd who nailed six 3 pointers and led the team with 20 points.

The championship would see the Lockeport Greenwave take on the Shelburne in an old-fashioned Shelburne County rivalry. To say that the crowd was into the game would be an understatement. The Greenwave got off to a hot start in the game and never looked back as they would eventually secure the win and championship with a 72-62 win. Shayne Crowell put up 25 points in the loss while Avery Lloyd scored 29 points and took home Tournament MVP honours for the Greenwave.

Avery Lloyd also won the 3-point shooting contest. Other tournament MVPs included Jonah Demings for Shelburne, Silas Willis for the Barrington, Linden Purdy for Drumlin Heights, Shawn Cameron for SMBA and Liam Cooksley for Bayview.
