Bernard Robert Berry, 82 of Overton, passed away January 27, 2020 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, May 16, 1937 he was a son to the late Marie Zoie (Surette). Bernard was involved in the fishing industry his entire working career. He started as a foreman for the Yarmouth Bar Trap, then becoming a lobster fisherman and after becoming the owner and operator of Joel Smith Fisheries for 25 plus years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and wood working. He was a handyman and could argue with the best of them. He will be dearly missed by his “little” shadow, his cat, Blackie; his loving wife of 61 years, Bertha; daughters, Rose (Karl), Milton Highlands, Margaret (John), Yarmouth; sons, Bernie (Karen), Milton Highlands, Gordie (Hollie), South Ohio, Robert (Janet), Overton; grandchild­ren, Jesse, Chelsea, Sara, Nick, Brad,

Dylan, Jeffrey; five great-grandchild­ren; brother, Russell Berry, Ontario. Beside his mother he was predecease­d by his brothers, Gordon, Arthur and Wilfred. Funeral arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There will be no funeral service at this time as per Bernard’s wishes. An interment will take place in the spring at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
