LANDRY, Jean Pius Sand Beach

-

Jean Pius Landry, age 97, Sand Beach, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully in Roseway Manor, Shelburne, on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Born in Amirault’s Hill on September 23, 1922, he was a son of the late Edmond and Lucy (Saulnier) Landry. Pius was a highly regarded carpenter by trade. Not only was he an excellent carpenter, but he was also a very good plumber, electrician and mechanic and all well were self-taught. When he worked on any project, he put his heart and soul into it, and it had to be completed to “his satisfaction.” As he always said, “If it’s not to my satisfaction it’s not a good job”, and he would start over again. He also was a lover of animals, especially dogs. He surely loved dogs, and when he would see one, he would have to go pet him. He was the last surviving member of his family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia; sisters, Evelyn Doucette, Louise Gaudet, Helen Hipson, Lorraine DeViller; brothers, Alcide, Emile, Ernie, Eddie, Homer, Jules, as well as by Augustin and Nelson in infancy. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday with prayers at 8 p.m. at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 31 from Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating., after which a reception will be held in the Jubilee Room (downstairs at the Cathedral). Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth SPCA or to a charity of your choice. You may sign the online guestbook by visiting www.huskilson.net.
