Parking changes at YCMHS being enforced

-

This month the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education will be working with Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School to eliminate parking inside the bus loop.

“This is to ensure that traffic flow around the school is as safe as possible,” writes TCRCE regional executive director Chris Boulter in a letter to YCMHS students and parents/guardians. “Part of this is ensuring the bus loop is used for its intended purpose. Using the bus loop for buses only will make sure that the flow of traffic in this lane is safe for all.”

In the past, with the school’s permission, students and visitors have parked in the loop during the day when buses were not present and were not using the loop.

Signage is now being added that indicates no parking within the bus loop. Students and parents/guardians are being asked for their cooperation in the following ways:

1. Do not enter the bus loop during the day. This includes using the bus loop as a parking or drop off area. The signage will be clear there is no parking in this area.

2. The drop off loop near the soccer field is intended for parents/guardians/visitors to park temporarily while dropping students off and/or to enter the school. “We need students not to use this area as a parking lot so it can be used for its intended purpose,” the letter states.

3. Students are to park in the student parking lot.

“In collaboration with the school, we are putting extra supervision in the student parking lot to ensure it is a safe environment,” the letter reads.

“Again, we appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this change. Both students’ and visitors’ cooperation with the points above will ensure the bus loop has a safe traffic flow, visitors have access to a temporary place to drop off/park when they enter the school, and that students have a place to park,” Boulter writes.
