Clare edges out Yarmouth in shootout
The Yarmouth Vikings hosted the Clare Loups for a highly entertaining game at the Mariners Centre on Sunday, Feb. 16, that ended in a 3-2 win for Clare following a scoreless overtime and a shootout that went 8 shooters deep on each team.
A stand-out performance of the game was Yarmouth goalie Tyson Peters who allowed only 2 goals on 70 shots during regulation play.
Clare was the first to open the scoring during the first period of the game with a goal by Jean Luc-Comeau, assisted by Branden Brooks. Yarmouth tied the period 1-1 later in the frame on a goal by Isaac Moore, assisted by Nathan Webber and Zach Richardson.
There was no scoring by either team in the second period.
Yarmouth pulled ahead 2-1 in the third period scoring a powerplay goal on a 5-on-3-man advantage. The goal was scored by JJ MacPhee, assisted by Isaac Moore and Max Nickerson. But Yarmouth’s lead was short-lived with Leon Bouchard, assisted by Alain Theriault, scoring for Clare 57 seconds later to knot the game 2-2. At the end of regulation play Clare had outshot Yarmouth 70-27 and the game headed into overtime. Following a scoreless 4-on-4, five-minute overtime in front of the large crowd, the game went into a shootout.

goalie Tyson Peters denied the first six shooters on either team. In the seventh round of the shootout Clare player Miguel LeBlanc and Yarmouth player Elijah Surette each scored, extending the shootout to an 8th round, during which Clare’s Mario Boudreau scored the game winner for the Loups.

REGIONALS QUALIFIER
• Sunday, Feb. 23: Forest Heights @ Yarmouth, 5 p.m. Mariners Centre Arena 2. These two teams will be competing for the final spot in regionals happening Feb. 28 and 29 in Middleton.
