Yarmouth high school basketball teams wrap up regular season, Horton hosting regionals Feb. 21-22

- ERIC BOURQUE

Horton High School will play host to the western regional division 1 basketball championships on the weekend of Feb. 21-22 and the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School girls will be among the teams vying for the regional title.

Yarmouth finished fourth in the western region’s regularseason standings and will face Horton in their regional tournament opener Friday, Feb. 21.

The Yarmouth girls were scheduled to play their last game before regionals at home against Barrington Thursday, Feb. 13, but the game was postponed due to stormy weather, which had resulted in schools being closed that day.

The game was rescheduled for Monday evening, Feb. 17.

Heading into that contest, the Vikings had an overall season record of 19-7.

Meanwhile, the YCMHS boys – who also had a game last week postponed due to weather – still had two league games to play as this story was being written, but it looked like they too would be taking part in this weekend’s regionals hosted by Horton.

The Viking boys were scheduled to play a home game Wednesday, Feb. 12, against Central Kings, but because of bad weather that day in the valley – resulting in school closures there – the game was postponed and rescheduled for Sunday afternoon, Feb. 16.

The Yarmouth boys had another league game set for Monday, Feb. 17, on the road against Avon View.

The YCMHS boys had an overall season record of 13-7 and a league record of 3-3 heading into their Feb. 16 game with Central Kings.
