High school hockey league play
BARRINGTON 4 – YARMOUTH 2
The Yarmouth Vikings and Barrington Barons played in Barrington Feb. 11. The Barons got on the board with 15 seconds left in the first period to take the 1-0 lead on a goal by Nolan Atwood (Ethan Brannen, Derek McCarthy).
The Barons scored early in the second on a goal by Ryan O'Callaghan (Derek McCarthy) but Barrington got into penalty trouble and the Vikings capitalized, scoring 2 power play goals in 50 seconds. Goals were scored by Max Nickerson and JJ MacPhee with 2 assists from Zach Richardson and 1 each from Isaac Moore and Jaden Watkins. The second period ended 2-2.
In the third the Barons got a 4-minute powerplay. The Vikings did a great job killing it off until there were just 3 seconds left and Teagan Scott (Derek McCarthy, Nolan Atwood) tucked in the go-ahead goal, with 3:46 left. The Barons added another at the 0:37 mark for the 4-2 win. Goal scorer was Derek McCarthy (Nolan Atwood). Yarmouth’s goalie Tyson Peters made 52 saves on the night as shots on goal were 56-29.
BARRINGTON 8 – PAR-EN-BAS 2
The PEB Sharks headed to Barrington to face the Barons Feb. 14. The Barons scored three unanswered goals in the first to take a 3-0 lead. Goal scorers were Jory Stewart, Drew Goreham and Jagger Kane with assists from Nolan Atwood, Tylan Foster, Justin Smith and Kieran O'Connor with 2.
The second period saw the Barons tally four more times before the Sharks got on the board with only 18 seconds left in the frame on a goal scored by Yanick Cottreau (Spencer Surette,
Ryan Warner). Barons goals came from Owen Penny (Kieran O’Connor, Drew Goreham), Tylan Foster and Ethan Brannen (short-handed) both unassisted, and Derek McCarthy (Nolan Atwood).
The third frame would see both teams score once each the Shark’s goal was scored by Yanick Cottreau (Zach D’Arcy). Scoring for Barrington was Justin Smith (Jagger Kane, Ethan Brannen).
BARRINGTON 4 – YARMOUTH 2
Yarmouth and Barrington faced off for the 4th time in 2 weeks in Barrington on Feb. 15. Yarmouth got on the board five minutes in on a goal from Elijah Surette (Max Nickerson). The Barons evened things up late in the frame. Scoring was Derek McCarthy shorthanded and unassisted. The game was 1-1 after one period.
The second period saw Yarmouth score on the PP 5 mins in by Tyler MacLeod (Max Nickerson). The Barons evened it at 2-2 later in the frame on a goal from Teagan Scott (Ethan Brannen, Kieran O’Connor) on the
PP. The Barons added 2 more goals in the third, both scored by Tylan Foster shorthanded and assists coming from Nolan Atwood, Derek McCarthy and Teagan.
