Off and running
Great start for hospital foundation fundraising in 2020
The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation (YHF) says it is off to a great start to meet its pledge to contribute $673,000 towards new equipment and services at Yarmouth Regional Hospital this year.
“February’s WE CARE Radiothon was a tremendous success, raising more than $125,000,” says foundation chair Harold Cook. “We are very grateful for the generosity of the people of the tri-counties who called in, came in and donated online. And, of course, we couldn’t have accomplished this without the wholehearted cooperation and support of
Y95 and their staff.
“We far surpassed our goal to be able to purchase three pieces of equipment that help people breathe,” he adds. The equipment will be used by the respiratory department. The excess will go towards other much-needed equipment.”
The Radiothon is just one of the foundation’s fundraising endeavours. The annual spring gala will be held at the Mariners Centre Saturday, May 30. This year’s theme is Camelot. Jody Shelley’s Golf Fore Health will tee off at the Yarmouth Links Golf Club on Friday, July 10.
Eleven departments within the hospital will benefit from the foundation’s commitment to supporting the hospital: Respiratory, ICU, Collaborative Learning Centre, Laboratory, Medical Device Reprocessing, Food and Nutrition, Perioperative, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation, Women’s and Children’s Unit, and Renal Dialysis.
In addition, the YHF has agreed to provide $20,000 towards the hospice initiative being developed on 4 North for end-of-life care. Also, it will continue to be a major contributor to the community navigator initiative that supports efforts to attract and retain physicians.
Yarmouth Regional Hospital serves the needs of Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne counties. It falls under the umbrella of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, but depends on the generosity of supporters for most of the up-to-date equipment physicians require to effectively serve patients, Cook says.
The foundation relies on the money raised by its signature events, as well as the generosity of individual donors to meet its commitments, Cook adds.
There are several ways to give – individual donations, memorial and tribute gifts, monthly donations, bequests, and gifts of securities and life insurance. Online donations can be made visiting the website: yarmouthhospitalfoundation.ca, and clicking the ‘Donate Now’ button.
YHF staff members are always happy to assist the public, says managing director Paulette Sweeney-Goodwin. For assistance, drop by the foundation office in the hospital lobby or call 902749-1669.
Tickets for upcoming events are also available at the foundation office.
