Yarmouth atom teams win titles

Yarmouth’s two atom teams won their league titles during the Scotia Minor Hockey League’s Day of Champions on March 7.

The league’s Day of Champions was held at the Mariners Centre March 7 and 8 and was hosted by the Yarmouth County Minor Hockey Association. The top two teams from seven minor hockey divisions played their championship games during the Day of Champions event.

The Sweeney’s Funeral Home Yarmouth Atom B Mariners won the league championship banner and gold medal with a 7-4 win over Acadia Atom B. Scoring were Dyson Ogden and Olivier d’Eon who each had a pair of goals. Patrick Gosling, Kole Corporon and Landyn Cottreau also scored. Assists were from by Jayden d’Entremont, Matheo d’Entremont, Kole Corporon, Dyson Ogden, Camden Churchill, Patrick Gosling, Bradley Watter, and Ben LeBlanc. Kaden Amiro and Jackson LeBlanc were in net.

In atom A action, the Yarmouth Pink Star Barro Atom A Mariners won the league title with a 4-2 win over Acadia. This was a tight game between the two teams with Yarmouth leading 2-1 when Acadia scored the tying goal with 4:47 remaining in the game. Yarmouth scored the go-ahead goal with 2:37 remaining and added an empty net insurance goal with one minute left on the clock. Scoring in the game were Parker LeBlanc with a hat-trick and Cullen Fitzgerald. Assists came from Myles Ellis, Brody Symonds, Cullen Fitzgerald and Jesse Churchill. Jairryn Maxwell and Austin Stoddard were in net.

Another nail bitter involving a local team came during the peewee A game between Clare-Digby and West Hants. Clare-Digby tied the game 3-3 with 3:27 remaining in the game but West Hants won the game 4-3. Scoring for Clare-Digby during their

Yarmouth’s Atom B Mariners won the Scotia Minor Hockey League’s Atom B League Championship during the Day of Champions in Yarmouth on March 7. The team had a 7-4 victory over Acadia. The team has been sponsored by Sweeney’s Funeral Home this season.
