FEED NOVA SCOTIA UPDATE

-

Feed Nova Scotia posted this update on March 19 on its website.

March 19, 2020

• At this point, approximately 80% of food banks in our network across the province are operational with roughly 80% of their volunteer and staff resources. This may change as the situation develops and we absolutely support the thoughtful decisions our agencies are making in regard to the continuation or discontinuation of service.

• We are committed to following the recommendations of the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

• Our mandate is to provide food and it’s a role we take seriously. We are balancing the need to continue regular distribution of food to our network with planning to meet the inevitable increased demand on our services.

• We currently have two weeks’ worth of food in our warehouse. This is on par with where we would normally be at this time of year. The majority of food we distribute comes from retailers, wholesalers, and farmers. Anticipating these contributions may decrease, in combination with the increased need for support, we are looking at purchasing a large bulk non-perishable food order.
