Yarmouth Recreation: Meet our new staff
Yarmouth Recreation is introducing the community to new staff members.
And it is also saying goodbye and good luck to a former staff member. Misty James, who had been the Community Recreation co-ordinator for Yarmouth Recreation, is now the Recreation Director for the Municipality of Barrington.
“Misty has done a tremendous job for Yarmouth Recreation for 12 years and we will miss her greatly. She brought a community development approach with Yarmouth Recreation programs, events and activities,” said Yarmouth Recreation director Frank Grant. “We plan to continue forward with many of the programs, initiatives and projects that she was working on and planning.”
Recreation programs and activities are suspended for the time being, but recreation departments look forward to getting back in action with the timing is right.
NEW HIRES
Yarmouth Recreation welcomes Sara LeBlanc to the team as Community Recreation co-ordinator.
LeBlanc has eight years of recreation experience working with the aging population and people with developmental disabilities, brain injuries, mental health issues and dementia. She also has worked as a personal trainer in Halifax as well as Hay River and Yellowknife, N.W.T.
She has a bachelor of arts in gerontology and sociology, as well as a diploma in health, wellness and recreation.
Some additional certifications she holds are: Engaging and Empowering Vulnerable Youth, Health and Wellbeing of Older People, Sport and Recreation Management, Wellness Coaching and Personal Training.
In her free time, she is an avid weightlifter, loves paddle boarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and taking her dog to the coast and exploring beaches.
Yarmouth Recreation welcomes Jillian Comeau to the team as Active Living coordinator.
Comeau is from Meteghan and brings a diverse background in recreation as well as in customer service. She is a graduate of the NSCC Truro Recreation program and has also studied recreation at Acadia University.
In the past, she has worked with after-school programs in Clare as well as recreation in long-term care with residents of the Villa Acadienne. She enjoys volunteering with various community events such as the Gran Fondo and the Relay for Life, and in the past she was a 4-H leader in the tri-counties.
In her personal time, most of her time for recreation is spent outdoors in nature — you’ll find her most days with her horse, Beau. Horses have been a passion of hers for many years and keep her very active.
