Garmin Varia Specialized S-works Evade

-

Getting hit from behind is every cyclist’s nightmare. Now you can get some advance warning of vehicles approaching from behind thanks to Garmin’s Varia, which integrates with compatible Edge cycling computers. The tail light in the unit brightens and flashes to notify approaching traffic, while the computer can detect multiple vehicles and lets you know how fast they’re coming at you, along with some insight on the relative threat level.

Sharing its roots with the S-works Mclaren TT helmet, which some argue is the fastest aero helmet on the planet, the S-works Evade provides many of the same aero benefits with a lot more ventilation. Using the same profile shape as the TT, there’s a lot less drag than in other helmets, resulting in 46 seconds of time saving over 40 km. (Yes, that adds up to minutes over a full distance race.) The strategically positioned air vents move air around your head to keep things cool. You can literally dial in a perfect fit, too, thanks to the Trifix web splitter system with Mindset microdial.
