ALESSANDRO FABIAN

-

Among the Italian triathletes who have juggled training with a very tough lockdown, veteran Alessandro Fabian has taken the period as a way to relax mentally. His training volumes didn’t change much, and he still averaged

25 hours week in, week out. “The mind is flexible and adapts to different situations very quickly,” he says. “Before it was set on racing and the Olympics, but in lockdown my mind became a bit lazy.”

Fabian says that his main challenge was to keep the motivation high and the fire burning: “I took it as an opportunity to invest in areas that I have normally neglected, like yoga, gym training and now, finally, open water. It was nice to be back in open water, and it went better than I expected.”

Fabian was also able to run in his neighbour’s field, where he ran 100 km per week – for three weeks – on a

350-metre loop.
