Youth hunter apprenticeship available
Young people who want to learn safe hunting skills can apply for an annual regional apprenticeship program.
The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) and the Delta Waterfowl Foundation (DWF) are co-hosting their ninth annual Youth Hunter Apprenticeship Program, again this fall. The aim of the program is to provide training for youth in safe hunting practices and also teach them about waterfowl habitat. The program involves three weekend sessions in September. Participants attending take part in two training sessions followed with participation in a goose field hunt in October. The safe hunting training program is for youth, ages 12 to 15, and there are 10 openings available for this year’s session.
The hunt itself is called the Dan Dufour Memorial Hunt and is named in honour of the co-founder of the SNC chapter of the DWF and its fundraising banquet.
Successful participants of the program will earn their apprentice hunting and firearm’s licences.
Interested applicants should submit a letter explaining their interest in conservation and why they would like to take part in the training program.
Copies of the letter can be scanned and emailed to pduncan@nation.on.ca or mailed to Philip Duncan, South Nation Conservation, 38 Victoria Street, Finch ON K0C 1K0.
