Last month OPP had several impaired driving situations to deal with in the PrescottRussell region.

Hawkesbury OPP were doing a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checkstop after midnight on Aug. 12 near the entry onto the Long Sault Bridge across the Ottawa River in Hawkesbury.

They noticed a motorcycle rider make a U-turn while approaching the checkstop.

The blue 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle passed through a red light at the intersection of John Street and Main Street. Police intercepted the rider several hundred metres away from the intersection.

Daniel Constant, 57, of Hawkesbury is charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood-alcohol content exceeding 80 milligrams, dangerous driving and with failure to stop at a red stop light.

His bike was impounded for seven days and his licence suspended on-site for 90 days.

He is scheduled for the Sept. 21 provincial court session in L’Orignal.

Vehicle accident

An afternoon accident on Aug. 12 resulted in a charge of refusal to provide a breath sample against Heather MacDonald, 65, of Essex. Police were called to a report of a vehicle going into the ditch on County Road 22, just south of the St-Isidore Road in The Nation Municipality. They found MacDonald and her 2015 Chrysler 200 in the ditch after she had lost control of the car. She was not injured.

After talking to MacDonald, police suspected she might be impaired but she refused to provide a sample for the roadside breath screen.

She was then charged with refusal to provide a breath sample, her car was impounded for seven days and her driver’s licence suspended on-site for 90 days. She is scheduled for the Sept. 14 provincial court session in L’Orignal.

Traffic stop catch

Just before midnight Aug. 13, an OPP patrol intercepted a 2011 white Honda Civic on Main Street in Hawkesbury. Maxime Lacelle, 20, of Hawkesbury is charged with driving with a blood-alcohol content exceeding 80 milligrams and also possession of marijuana less than 30 grams in amount.

His car was impounded for seven days, his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, and he is scheduled for provincial court in L’Orignal in September.

Impaired charges

Marc-André Proulx, 21, of Grenville, QC, is charged with driving with a blood-alcohol content exceeding 80 milligrams following police investigation Aug. 18 of an incident on Main Street in Hawkesbury involving a 2013 Hyundai Veloster.

Police have also charged Stephanie Nemeth, 25, of Orléans with the same charge following an Aug. 20 incident involving a black 2014 Honda Civic intercepted on Pearl Road in Champlain Township.

In both cases the drivers had their vehicles impounded for seven days, their licences suspended on-site for 90 days, and they are scheduled for provincial court in L’Orignal in September.
