Cougars enjoy Halloween weekend win

The Vankleek Hill Cougars suffered a 6-2 shredding to the claws of the Embrun Panthers over the Oct. 22 weekend but they recovered for their final October match with a Halloween trick and treat to beat the Gatineau Hull-Volant 4-2.

The Saturday night game against the Panthers saw the Cougars getting ripped up on their own home ice. Charles Doyon and Samuel Fournier accounted for Vankleek Hill’s two goals. Assists came from Maxime Emond, Vincent Huneault, and Brenden Rowe. Brennan Nadeau and Anthony Vassall split goalkeepin­g duties that night.

Kirkland Reaney fired in two points for Embrun with fellow Panthers Philippe Brunet, Mikael Gibeault, Tyler Jodoin, and Jacob Marley finishing off the tally.

Scoring assists came from Jodoin, Marley, Reaney, Michael Coqan, Cody Lavictoire, and Sébastien Roy. Aaron CathcartMc­Kinnon warded the Embrun net.

The Cougars had a better time at home over the Halloween weekend when the Gatineau Hull-Volant showed up at the Den.

Vankleek Hill fans enjoyed a weekend treat as the Cougars tricked up the HullVolant for a 4-2 win with goals from Nicolas Castonguay, Tyler Dopelhamer, Charles Doyon, and Trystan Lavoie. Goal assists came from Doyon, Lavoie, Ryan Allen, MarcAntoin­e Doyon, Tyler Druce, and Vincent Huneault. Anthony Vassall guarded the Cougars’ net.

Scoring for Gatineau were Ryan Abraham and Louis-Philippe Cyr with assists from Martin Arnold, Alexandre Gratton, and Maxime Racette. Ian Girard defended the Gatineau net. The Cougars host the Rockland Nationals Nov. 5, then go on the road the next weekend for a rematch Nov. 11 with the Embrun Panthers, and a showdown with the Cumberland Bandits the following Saturday.
