Cougars beat Vikings in home game
The Vankleek Hill Cougars got the best of the leading team in the National Capital Junior Hockey League, in one of their three final games on the January schedule.
The Cougars defeated the Papineauville Vikings 7-2 Saturday night over the January 27 weekend. The Vikings lead the league with 44 points so far in the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) after 28 games played so far. The Cougars are in the lower half of the league standings with 27 points after 29 games played.
Scoring for Vankleek Hill against Papineauville were Charles Doyon with four of the Cougars’ seven goals. Nicolas Castonguay added two more points and one goal from Riley Sauvé. Assists on the scoring came from Sauvé, Ryan Allen, Nikolas Ayotte, Tyler Dopelhamer, Marc-Antoine Doyon, Tyler Druce, and Trystan Lavoie. Dominik Turcotte guarded the Vankleek Hill net.
Vikings goals came from Joël Gagnon, Pascal Leblanc, Jacob Osborne, Joey Simoneau, and Jeremy Trudeau. Assists on the goals came from Gagnon, Osborne, Justin Labrosse, Vincent Labrosse, and Anthony Laprade. Yanick Gosselin held the Vikings net.
The Clarence Creek Castors stopped the Cougars 6-2, Sunday afternoon, at the Clarence Creek Arena. Tyler Dopelhamer and Riley Sauvé scored for Vankleek Hill. Assisting on goals were Kevin Doyle and Charles Doyon. Sébastien Moreau occupied the Cougars net.
Two goals for the Castors came from Patrick Lemay with singles from Matthew Clément, Connor Lacey, Logan Lefebvre, and Matthew Wilson. Assists on the scoring came from Clément, Lemay, Wilson, Jeff Brett, Matthew Clifford, and Patrick Sonoski. Corey Camirand guarded the Castors net.
The Cougars are in Blackburn February 2 to play against the Inferno, and home February 3 to host the Metcalfe Jets.
