ROUND TWO BEGINS IN NCJHL PLAYOFFS

Junior hockey fans in SaintIsido­re and Clarence Creek can look forward to more home team action to cheer on as round two begins in the National Capital Junior Hockey League playoffs series.

The Saint-Isidore Aigles flew away with the win to earn themselves a place in the second round of the NCJHL playoffs after holding up the Cumberland Bandits, March 7, in the seventh deciding game of their eliminatio­n round series.

The Wednesday night winner-takeall match in Cumberland finished 4-2 for Saint-Isidore with the Aigles scoring in every single period. Jacob Belanger popped in a pair of goals for Saint-Isidore.

The Bandits got the first goal of the game in first period and managed a second goal in third period. However, the home team could not get the puck in the net at all during the second-period play.

The Saint-Isidore edged out a 3-2 win over North Dundas last Friday night, after having a short break. with a pair of goals from Nicholas Souligny and one from Patrick Ranger. The Aigles ended up grounded with a 3-0 loss in the Sunday rematch on the Rockets’ home ice.

Tied at one game apiece as of press time, the Aigles and the Rockets were scheduled for their third encounter in the series Tuesday night, March 13, with the Aigles keeping the home ice advantage Thursday night in the fourth scheduled game of the series. The remainder of the second-round series has North Dundas as host Saturday and then Saint-Isidore for Sunday afternoon and North Dundas for March 20, if those last two games in the schedule prove necessary.
