MIDNIGHT FIRE
Firefighters from stations in three municipalities answered a midnight house fire report on the border of East Hawkesbury Township and North Glengarry Township. The farm house itself was destroyed but the utility and storage buildings on the farm property were far enough from the site of the fire to escape damage.
Firefighters from three district stations answered a midnight house fire call in East Hawkesbury Township last Friday.
Fifteen trucks and about 40 fire fighters from stations in East Hawkesbury Township, North Glengarry Township, and the Village of Vankleek Hill in Champlain Township rushed to a reported house fire on July 6, on Concession 9 Road in Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott. The house is located near the border between East Hawkesbury and North Glengarry townships.
The fire call first came in between midnight and 12:30 am, to the North Glengarry Fire Department, which relayed it to East Hawkesbury. The house was vacant at the time of the incident.
Firefighters spent three hours on site, putting out the fire and also using an excavator to move around the rubble so they could check for and douse any smouldering material to prevent it from reigniting later.
Fire Chief Dominic Normand reported the house destroyed and noted the incident is listed as “cause unknown” for now. Anyone with information about the fire can call the East Hawkesbury Fire Department at 613674-2170 or the local OPP detachment.
