COUNTIES COUNCIL REVIEWS COMMUTER CYCLING REPORT

The new provincial government cancelled a program the previous government set up to help support commuter cycling projects in Ontario. But not before the United Counties of Prescott-Russell and a few other municipal government­s managed to get grants approvals from the first year run of the five-year program.

“They do need to adopt it,” said Marc Clermont, public works Director for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR), about a consultant’s report that was recently presented to counties council, “so we can proceed with the work, using the grant.”

The engineerin­g consultant firm Morrison Hershfield presented counties council with the 22-page United Counties of PrescottRu­ssell Commuter Cycling Plan during the August 8 committee of the whole session. The report is a guideline for future improWFNFO­UT UP MPDBM SPBET BOE FYJTUJOH USBJMT to help support both recreation­al cycling and also commuter cycling where it may be feasible, in some parts of the counties.

Clermont has recommende­d using the DPNNVUFS DZDMJOH HSBOU GPS QBWFE TIPVMEFS work on both sides of sections of County Road 4 and County Road 9.
