Commemorative trees planted at legion

-

When posts were removed from the Truro Legion property members came up with an idea that adds new life to the area and honours veterans.

Nine maple trees, donated by the Truro Superstore and planted by Legion members, with cooperation from the town’s tree department, now adorn the area next to the parking lot.

“This is to commemorate veterans of all wars and conflicts involving Canada, and those who are serving,” said Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 President Gerry Tucker. “I’ve never seen this done before.”

Each tree has a plaque in front of it stating what it commemorates. Trees have been planted for the First World War, Second World War, Korean War, Gulf War, the war in Afghanistan, the Cold War, Canadian peacekeepers, the merchant navy and the unknown soldier.
