Kentville man sent for psychological assessment
KENTVILLE
A Kentville man facing several charges, including attempted murder, following an incident in an apartment, has been sent for a psychiatric assessment.
Donald Lloyd Stuart, 56, of Kentville, is charged with attempting to murder a man by stabbing him, aggravated assault, using a weapon in committing an assault, unlawfully entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence and carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.
The charges stem from an incident inside an apartment building on Aberdeen Street, Kentville, on Dec. 6.
Stuart was present in Kentville provincial court in custody on Wednesday.
The defence requested an assessment for criminal responsibility, which was granted. Stuart has been remanded to the East Coast Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Dartmouth for the assessment. He’s scheduled to return to court Jan. 5, 2017, for a hearing to determine criminal responsibility.
According to a news release issued by Kentville Police Inspector Darryl Brown on Wednesday, police received a 911 call to attend Aberdeen Street on Tuesday at about 3:15 p.m. On arrival, police found a 57-year-old Kentville man who had suffered lacerations to his face and head.
The man was taken to Valley Regional Hospital for treatment and was later released. Stuart was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. The two men allegedly know each other and both reside in the same building.
The Kentville Police Service is continuing its investigation.
