Cause of fatal collision in Pictou County not yet determined

ABERCROMBIE

Police say the investigation into the cause of a fatal collision in Abercrombie on Wednesday is continuing.

The crash, which occurred between a car and a dump truck shortly before noon, claimed the life of an 85-year-old woman from New Glasgow.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said, adding this is a difficult time, especially so close to Christmas.

It was earlier reported that the driver of the dump truck was not injured. However, Hutchinson said Thursday morning that the 71-year-old man from Pictou County was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Part of the Trenton connector was closed for much of the day Wednesday as RCMP investigated.

Hutchinson said the cause hasn’t been determined and could take several weeks or up to a few months.

He said there would be a mechanical check on both vehicles to make sure they were both in working order.

“That’s a given in any collision involving a fatality.”
