Richardson to coach Spengler Cup team

CALGARY – Ottawa native Luke Richardson was named head coach of Canada’s Spengler Cup team on Thursday. The tournament will run from Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerlan­d. Richardson will be joined by associate coach Dave King of Saskatoon and assistant coach Gordie Dwyer of Dalhousie, N.B. Richardson helped Canada to a runner-up finish as an assistant coach at the 2016 Deutschlan­d Cup. He previously spent four seasons as head coach of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators (201216) and was also an assistant coach with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators from 2009 to 2012. As a player, he won gold with Canada at the 1994 IIHF World Championsh­ip and added a silver medal in 1996. He also played for Canada at the 1987 world juniors.
