Richardson to coach Spengler Cup team
CALGARY – Ottawa native Luke Richardson was named head coach of Canada’s Spengler Cup team on Thursday. The tournament will run from Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland. Richardson will be joined by associate coach Dave King of Saskatoon and assistant coach Gordie Dwyer of Dalhousie, N.B. Richardson helped Canada to a runner-up finish as an assistant coach at the 2016 Deutschland Cup. He previously spent four seasons as head coach of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators (201216) and was also an assistant coach with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators from 2009 to 2012. As a player, he won gold with Canada at the 1994 IIHF World Championship and added a silver medal in 1996. He also played for Canada at the 1987 world juniors.
