RCMP search for man who fled police, dragged officer
Pictou County District RCMP is searching for a man who fled from police and dragged an officer yesterday.
At approximately 1:18 a.m., officers from Pictou County District RCMP were conducting a checkpoint on Highway 4 near Hamilton Road in Alma.
A driver stopped at the checkpoint and briefly spoke with an RCMP office then abruptly accelerated, catching the officer’s shoulder and arm and dragging him approximately 50 feet before the officer managed to free himself from the vehicle. The vehicle continued to speed off eastbound on Highway 4.
The officer suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries.
The driver and sole occupant is described as a male, younger than 20 years old, five-foot-10 to six feet in height with a medium build and brown hair.
The vehicle is described as a medium blue, late 1990s or early 2000s Chevrolet or Pontiac, two-door with a loud exhaust.
