Man gets house arrest for stealing vehicle
CHARLOTTETOWN – A 22-yearold man who stole a vehicle that was left unlocked with the keys inside it was recently given four months of house arrest. Darcy Gregory Chandler appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after pleading guilty to the vehicle theft.
The court heard Chandler was walking in Charlottetown on Jan. 20 and checking vehicles in a parking lot when he found a door that was unlocked. Chandler stole the vehicle after finding the keys inside.
The vehicle was later recovered with some minor damage. Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court it was Chandler’s third incident in as many years involving him stealing a vehicle. Chandler was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet at his supervisor’s discretion.
Chandler will be on probation for nine months and must pay a $100 victim surcharge.
