North River man guilty of failing breathalyzer

-

TRURO, N.S. — A North River man who passed a police officer and then wavered across the centre line was fined $1,300 after pleading guilty to failing the breathalyzer.

“Passing a police officer is probably not the smartest way to stay under the radar,” Judge Al Bégin told Robert Unicomb, 55, of Highway 311 during sentencing. Unicomb registered .14 on both breathalyzer readings but defence lawyer Bob Hagel told the court his driving “wasn’t really bad,” and that he had only “crossed over the yellow line” after passing the RCMP officer at about 1:45 a.m. on June 18. Unicomb’s driving privileges were also revoked for one year.
