Fam­ily fun the fo­cus of Home­town Hockey

NHL alumni Colin White and a live per­for­mance by Matt Mays will be part of the Rogers Home­town Hockey event in

Truro this month.

Rogers an­nounced fes­ti­val de­tails on Thursday for the two-day event, which will be held Oct. 28 and 29 at the down­town Civic Square.

The free hockey-themed week­end will fea­ture games, prize give­aways and fun ac­tiv­i­ties.

The Rogers Fan Hub will fea­ture in­no­va­tive and in­ter­ac­tive ex­pe­ri­ences, show­cas­ing vir­tual au­to­graphs from NHL stars, a hockey-themed Zam­boni video game and au­to­graph sign­ings by White.

The Sport­snet Aug­mented Re­al­ity Photo booth will give fans the chance to get close to their favourite play­ers through tech­nol­ogy.

The Hockey Cir­cus Show will fea­ture Paz, a worl­drenowned hockey ac­ro­bat. Paz jug­gles ev­ery­thing from pucks to flam­ing hockey sticks, all while stand­ing on top of a net.

The Sco­tia­bank Com­mu­nity Locker Room is a space to en­gage hockey fans, cel­e­brate the game and in­ter­act with NHL alumni.

Sco­tia­bank will also be do­nat­ing $15,000 to mi­nor hockey as­so­ci­a­tions in the com­mu­nity.

Other ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude the Tim Hor­tons ball hockey rink for pickup games, the dodge Fam­ily Zone, which fea­tures the Stow ‘n Go Chal­lenge – a hockey-themed ob­sta­cle course – the Play­mo­bil Kids Zone, OK Tire Zam­boni Pit Stop and live, lo­cal en­ter­tain­ment through­out the week­end, be­gin­ning with Mac and Hawes Satur­day, fol­lowed by StoneHouse on Sun­day.

The week­end will also in­clude broad­cast hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone and meet-and­greet op­por­tu­ni­ties with White and Mays.

White, a New Glas­gow na­tive who played in the NHL for 15 sea­sons, and Mays, a dart­mouth mu­si­cian, will both be part of the live broad­cast on Sun­day.

One Sun­day broad­cast fea­ture will fol­low Sloan and ac­tor Jonathan Tor­rens dur­ing a tour at the River breeze Fear Farm.

On Satur­day, the fes­ti­val runs from noon to 6 p.m. On Sun­day, it opens at 1 p.m. and runs through the end of the Rogers Home­town Hockey out­door view­ing party.

The na­tional game be­ing broad­cast on Sport­snet will fea­ture the Pitts­burgh Pen­guins and Win­nipeg Jets Sun­day, be­gin­ning at 7:30 p.m.

The fes­ti­val is be­ing pre­sented by Sco­tia­bank and dodge.
