Truro suffers second straight loss on the Island during MHL Showcase event

The Truro Bearcats suffered a pair of losses at the Maritime Junior Hockey League Showcase this week.

After a 4-1 loss to the Miramichi Timberwolv­es on Tuesday, the Bearcats fell 4-2 to the league’s top team, the Edmundston Blizzard, on Wednesday.

The Showcase featured all 12 teams playing two games in Summerside.

Liam Leonard held the hot hand for the Blizzard on Wednesday, scoring one goal and adding three assists, as his team won for the eighth time in nine games this season.

Frederic Beauchesne-Dubuc, Alex Lavoie and Maxime Grandmaiso­n also scored for the Blizzard.

Riley Baggs and Cameron MacLeod scored for the Bearcats (55-0), while Francis Asselin earned the goaltendin­g win over Kevin Resop.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Bearcats, coming after a five-game winning streak.

The Bearcats hit the road for a pair of games in New Brunswick this weekend.

Tonight, they visit Campbellto­n, followed by a Saturday game in Miramichi.

Their next home game is Oct. 20 against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (RECC, 7 p.m.).
