Blizzard take early lead in MHL final

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. — Kyle Ward scored 51 seconds into double overtime to give the Edmundston Blizzard a 6-5 victory over the Yarmouth Mariners in the opening game of the best-of-seven Maritime Junior Hockey League championship series Saturday night.

Game 2 was last night in Edmundston.

The series shifts to Yarmouth for Games 3 and 4 on Thursday and Friday.

The league winner heads to Ottawa for the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian championship tournament May 2-6.
