Canada blanks Slovaks in U18 exhibition

CHELYABINSK, Russia — Canada defeated Slovakia 5-0 here yesterday in a tuneup game for both countries prior to the International Ice Hockey Federation under-18 men’s championship.

Serron Noel scored twice, with singles to Cameron Hillis, Alexis Lafreniere and Cole Fonstad. Kevin Mandolese and Nolan Maier shared the shutout in goal.

Canada takes on Finland in another exhibition game today and will open the world championship Thursday in Magnitogorsk against the defending champion United States.
