Thieves take hit off Halifax pot dispensary

-

A Halifax cannabis store that has been ordered to close is facing more problems.

Thieves broke into Coastal Cannapy Medical Dispensary at 2411 Agricola St. sometime before Wednesday morning.

“Yeah, there was a breakin,” an unidentified representative said in a message on the business’ Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. “Now the police aren’t letting us in.”

The representative declined an interview. “We know the cops took everything that the robber didn’t, though,” the message said.

Halifax Regional Police responded to Coastal Cannapy after a report at 7:16 a.m. that the front window had been smashed out, a police spokeswoman said in an email.

Officers confirmed a breakin had occurred and were still on the scene Wednesday afternoon, said Const. Carol Mcisaac, who added that there are no suspects at this time.

Halifax Regional Municipality has asked the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia to close Coastal Cannapy.

The store is already under a provincial court closure order after the retail shop and its landlord, a numbered company, pleaded guilty on Dec. 1 to operating without a permit. But the shop has continued to operate, in violation of that order.

A Supreme Court hearing date has not yet been set, according to a city news release.

It is illegal under federal law for a store to sell and dispense cannabis. When the drug is legalized, only the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation will be authorized to sell
