LOCAL SUPERMARKET RAMPS UP EFFORTS, HIRES STAFF

-

Truro’s Atlantic Superstore is stepping up its efforts to protect customers and staff from COVID-19, including the installation of plexiglas barriers at checkouts. Parent company Loblaw says its Superstore locations are only allowing 200 customers in at a time, while Shoppers Drug Mart locations are imposing a 50-person limit.

Truro Superstore is also only opening every other cash register to encourage social distancing, whenever possible.

At the same time it is encouraging cashless transactions, to reduce personal contact between staff and customers.

As its COVID-19 response ramps up, Truro Superstore is hiring more staff, to keep a steady supply of food and another essentials available. Loblaw said new positions include store clerks, pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, assemblers, as well as Shoppers Drug Mart salespeople. “We know people are relying on our stores to be open, stocked and ready to serve,” Mark Wilson, head of human resources at Loblaw said. “In order to keep things running smoothly, we need a full team in stores and distribution centres. We also need to be able to give our current team a break.” People can apply for jobs online at www.loblawjobs.ca.
