The Truro Bearcats continue to keep pace as one of the top teams in the Maritime Junior Hockey League, with the 201617 season rapidly winding down.

The Bearcats put up six points over the long weekend, downing the Amherst Ramblers twice and shading the Summerside Western Capitals in a shootout.

The wins give Truro a share of second place in the league’s competitive Eastlink South Division with Yarmouth Mariners. Each has 62 points and trails the Pictou County Weeks Crushers who are first with 65.

It stayed that way until the final minute of the second when Luke MacMillan took a pass across the middle and beat Christofer Langlais with a wrist shot to tie it at one. Tibbo and Hughes picked up assists.

The teams played through a scoreless third and overtime frame, sending them to the shootout.

After Hughes and Tibbo failed to connect for the Bearcats, Dylan Burton put one past Langlais to secure the win.

Forslund stopped all three Summerside shooters and made 28 saves on 29 shots throughout the contest. Langlais faced 25 Bearcats shots.
