RCMP investigates recent construction thefts
A rash of thefts at construction sites has resulted in a large quantity of various tools going missing.
Colchester District RCMP responded to a theft of construction equipment from a trailer at a construction site on Hub Centre Drive in Upper Onslow, on Feb. 16 or 17. Sometime overnight thieves entered a secured trailer and stole a large quantity of tools. Several saws, drills, nailers, an air compressor, along with other tools were stolen.
Another incident involved theft of construction equipment from a cube van parked at a construction site on Poplar Drive in Brookside, reported to police Feb. 18. Thieves broke into the cube van sometime overnight Feb. 17- 18.
A large quantity of construction tools were stolen.
A third theft was reported Sunday on Wexford Drive in Valley. Sometime between Friday evening and Sunday morning, thieves entered a secured trailer and stole a quantity of tools.

Protect your belongings Three recent thefts from local construction sites, along with others that have taken place in the province, has RCMP encouraging contractors to consider the following to prevent being targeted by thieves:
■ remove items of value from work sites;
■ take extra steps to secure building or trailer equipment;
■ park in a well lit and visible area;
■ engrave markings on equipment to help identify if stolen;
■ document all serial and model numbers;
■ photograph all items;
■ install alarm systems/ security cameras.
