-

Some top-notch musical entertainment will be staged this weekend at Roadside Willies in Bible Hill.

The action kicks off tonight (Friday) with Three O’Cubano and Alison Enriquez, and Sunday will feature special guests at the monthly Sunday Jazz at Willies session.

Alison Enriquez is a talented young violinist and singer from Cuba who is following in her father Augusto’s professional footsteps.

Studying violin with Symphony Nova Scotia players and attending school at Armbrae Academy in Halifax, Alison is a busy young lady.

Three O’Cubano includes Jeff Goodspeed, woodwinds; Augusto Enriquez, vocals and guitar; and Silvio Pupo, piano. They serve up a cocktail of music from Cuba, Brazil, North America, Italy and beyond.

With a sense of humour bubbling just under the surface Three O’Cubano passionately delivers the music of some of the world’s greatest composers and original compositions that are catchy and at the same time musically complex.

Joining Sunday jazz regulars Paul Barrett, trombone; Al Fitch, drums; John MacLeod, bass; and Nick Fisher, saxophones will be pianist and saxophonist Trevor Wentzell who is very well known on the Halifax music scene as a freelance Alto Sax player, pianist and organist performing with various city jazz ensembles ass well as his own groups.

Travelling up from Windsor will be trumpeter Doug Murley whose brother Mike is a noted jazz tenor sax player working out of Toronto where he is in demand as a player and teacher.

Mike’s nephew Matt, Doug’s son, will also be at Willies Sunday to join the fun as the sevenpiece group offers a selection of classic jazz standards.
