Colchester County is hiring an Alberta company to certify the runway approaches at Debert Airport in order to maintain NavCanada certi cation.

The municipality has hired Jetpro at a cost of $23,000.

e fee includes a one-time cost of $14,000 to upgrade the approach instrumentation to include a Wide Area Augmentation System. is would be used in a Lateral Procedure Vertical Guidance system to provide more accurate information to aircraft requiring more control to a lower elevation.

e cost also includes an annual maintenance fee of $4,000 as well as a ight check fee of $5,000, repeated every 3.5 years.

Council has identi ed the Debert airport as one of its top priorities.

Had the municipality not proceeded with the recerti cation, the airport would have lost it support from NavCanada for its instrument approach procedures by next December.

And CAO Rob Simonds said that would have “signi cantly” restricted operations at the air eld to only days with clear visibility. ve

“The Jetpro systems will support the continued operations of the air eld in varying weather conditions and is congruent with the needs of our current aircraft operators,” he said.

Jetpro provides such services to more than 120 airports across the country.
